"I absolutely love the look of aged printed materials, whether it's photographs, newspapers, even old labels and signs with flaking paint! There is a story, history and esteemed nostalgia associated with old photo's, editions of literature and other such printed materials. Printed materials, over time and generations, decay.
Yellowing pages, moisture stains, fading, ink runs, handling, rips, tears, folds bumps, scratches and burns are all signs of usage and breakdown. I re-create that same worn and torn, antiquian look, using a variety of techniques including Ink washes, distressing inks and chalks, distressing edges by sanding, folding, crumpling, sealing and brush splattering. Once all of these materials are compiled into a layout, re-worked with even more distressing techniques, and then framed behind glass, the finished result looks like a framed time capsule!!!" |
The Artful Archiving of Photographs and other Memorabilia.
People are drawn to 'old' photo's, the ones that are a little faded, worn around the edges...perhaps they have creases in them where they had been folded... something written in old handwriting that is barely legible... Thats what I re-create... that old worn and torn look...
Using hand torn papers, distressing inks and chalks, sepia staining, gentle sanding, brushed effects, glue, sealer and finish... and odd little embellishments, I put together a framed archive of what looks like was found in a time capsule. Together with Journalling, little details such as photo corners and a textured finish, the archive becomes an interesting talking piece, preserved and framed, ready to grace your wall.
